Bandleader, vocalist, pianist, guitarist, songwriter and arranger Peter Hostage has been performing throughout New England at nightclubs, concerts, functions, weddings, and house parties for nearly 30 years. His love and respect for the tradition of Jazz and R&B permeates all of the musical styles he has mastered over the years. He has many influences in Jazz, R&B and Rock; including Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Bill Evans, George Benson, The Beatles, soul of Motown, Memphis and New Orleans, Ray Charles, Steely Dan and B.B. King and many others. Through the years he has opened concerts for name acts including Dave Mason, Taj Mahal, and Gary Burton. He wrote and produced an LP of original R&B flavored rock in the mid-eighties titled "Motion," and a CD of original Jazz with his trio titled "Do That!" in 1999. He will be releasing a new CD of originals and standards featuring the Hostage Situation, his nine piece swing orchestra, in the spring of 2004, titled "Swingin' The Blues." 

 

The Peter Hostage Band has been providing great entertainment to New England audiences for more than 20 years! Performing throughout New England, the Peter Hostage Band specializes in a mix of Swing and Soul, which makes for great party music that all can enjoy. They is a six-piece Swing & Soul band featuring the sounds of the Swing era, plus Classic R&B and Rock featuring the guitarist/vocalist Peter Hostage, who is joined by some of the best musicians New England has to offer on sax, trumpet, keyboards, bass, drums and horns. When the situation calls for it, they will provide quiet background jazz for cocktail receptions, or can turn the house upside-down with kickin' funk! They play classics from the 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's! Their repertoire includes songs from Duke Ellington, Glen Miller, Frank Sinatra, Louis Prima, Ray Charles, The Beatles, James Taylor, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, B.B. King, Steely Dan, Huey Lewis, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Santana, Eric Clapton, Nat King Cole, Van Morrison, James Brown, Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding, Brian Setzer, Tito Puente, Sam & Dave, Lou Rawls, Dr. John, and Elvis! (to name just a few!).

 

The Hostage Situation is a hard-drivin' swing machine featuring nine of the Boston area's finest musicians playing piano, bass, drums and horns. Singer/Pianist Peter Hostage leads this top-tier pro ensemble through the swing classics of Basie, Ellington, Miller and Sinatra, plus a whole lot of jump blues from the likes of Louis Jordan, Joe Turner, Louis Prima and Ray Charles. The Hostage Situation also features original arrangements of standards from The Great American Songbook, such as "Fly Me To The Moon," "The Way You Look Tonight," "The Glory Of Love" and many more. Though they have been described by people in the Boston swing dance community as "authentic swing" and "absolute swing," The Hostage Situation plays more than just swing, mixing in Latin flavors from Tito Puente, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Santana.

 

Pianist/vocalist Peter Hostage leads The Peter Hostage Trio through the songs of the Great American Songbook, including "Bye Bye Blackbird," "In The Wee Small Hours," "Don't Get Around Much Any More", plus Bossa Nova standards like "One Note Samba," "Wave" and blues like "Route 66" and "Alright, Okay, You Win." This small ensemble can play quiet background cocktail jazz, or turn it up to pump up a party with funk and R&B classics. The Trio has a large jazz repertoire including songs from Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Dave Brubeck, Herbie Hancock, Chet Baker, Louis Armstrong, The Crusaders, Weather Report, and Antonio Carlos Jobim (just a partial list!); plus many of the classic R&B standards from the Memphis, Motown and New Orleans artists like Al Green, Stevie Wonder and Dr. John. This is a versatile, classy and professional ensemble perfect for the smaller party or reception.
