Bandleader, vocalist, pianist, guitarist, songwriter and arranger Peter Hostage has been performing throughout New England at nightclubs, concerts, functions, weddings, and house parties for nearly 30 years. His love and respect for the tradition of Jazz and R&B permeates all of the musical styles he has mastered over the years. He has many influences in Jazz, R&B and Rock; including Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Bill Evans, George Benson, The Beatles, soul of Motown, Memphis and New Orleans, Ray Charles, Steely Dan and B.B. King and many others. Through the years he has opened concerts for name acts including Dave Mason, Taj Mahal, and Gary Burton. He wrote and produced an LP of original R&B flavored rock in the mid-eighties titled "Motion," and a CD of original Jazz with his trio titled "Do That!" in 1999. He will be releasing a new CD of originals and standards featuring the Hostage Situation, his nine piece swing orchestra, in the spring of 2004, titled "Swingin' The Blues."
The
Peter Hostage Band has been providing great entertainment to New
England audiences for more than 20 years! Performing throughout New
England, the Peter Hostage Band specializes in a mix of Swing
and Soul, which makes for great party music that all can enjoy. They is a
six-piece Swing & Soul band featuring the sounds of the Swing era,
plus Classic R&B and Rock featuring the guitarist/vocalist Peter
Hostage, who is joined by some of the best musicians New England has to offer on
sax, trumpet, keyboards, bass, drums and horns. When the situation calls
for it, they will provide quiet background jazz for cocktail receptions,
or can turn the house upside-down with kickin' funk! They play classics
from the 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's!
The Hostage Situation is a hard-drivin' swing machine featuring nine of the Boston area's finest musicians playing piano, bass, drums and horns. Singer/Pianist Peter Hostage leads this top-tier pro ensemble through the swing classics of Basie, Ellington, Miller and Sinatra, plus a whole lot of jump blues from the likes of Louis Jordan, Joe Turner, Louis Prima and Ray Charles. The Hostage Situation also features original arrangements of standards from The Great American Songbook, such as "Fly Me To The Moon," "The Way You Look Tonight," "The Glory Of Love" and many more. Though they have been described by people in the Boston swing dance community as "authentic swing" and "absolute swing," The Hostage Situation plays more than just swing, mixing in Latin flavors from Tito Puente, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Santana.
